Throughout August at Bygones

SUMMER HOLIDAYS- SUPER SUMMER TRAIL – test your Victorian trivia knowledge and spot Albert, Victoria and Edward who are hiding in the shops and rooms!  Complete the activity to claim your sweet treat.

And don’t forget there is late night opening on EVERY THURSDAY IN AUGUST, where there will be an activity to commemorate Prince Albert’s 200th Birthday and a chance to win a lucky dip prize!

Evening Illuminations at Babbacombe Model Village – 8.15pm to 10.15pm, Monday to Friday

The village is transformed in the evenings with thousands of miniature lights – it really is two attractions in one! The miniature lights enable you to see what goes on inside many of the models and, as dusk develops into darkness, the illuminations beautifully light up the gardens and models creating an enchanting atmosphere.  The Model Village should be seen in daylight too, either buy using their free return photo-pass to visit twice or by arriving earlier, and doing a walk around, before it gets dark. It’s an enchanting and magical experience with the illuminations but you won’t see all the tiny details after dark.  The lights are best viewed just before it is completely dark and the optimum viewing time is currently around 8.45 to 9.45pm.

Friday 2 August to Saturday 10 August – The Scarecrow Festival.

Around 85 scarecrows will be found in and around St Marychurch and along Babbacombe Downs as the second year of this lovely festival takes place.  Trail packs will be available to buy during the week from various outlets, including Fiesta Red, and all proceeds will be donated to improving and maintaining St Marychurch.  Fantastic stuff!

Friday 2 August 7.30pm – Jethro at Babbacombe Theatre

Enjoy a memorable evening of hysterical nonsense, as we take a peek into the circus lurking deep within the mind of, probably the greatest, comic storyteller ever to grace the stage – JETHRO!

Tuesday 6 August 10.30am to midday – Local Walk around St Marychurch

Join local experts from the Local History Society for a walk  around the ancient St Marychurch, a place of worship since Saxon times.  You’ll find out all about the Marble and the Potteries, the Churches and local involvement during World War 2.  The walk lasts about an hour and a half, there is no change but a donation is always welcome to help with the running costs of the society.  Meet at the bus stop near the Cliff Railway Cafe on Babbacombe Downs, there is a blue sign on the wall.

hree film students travel to Maryland to make a student film about a local urban legend… The Blair Witch. The three went into the woods on a two day hike to find the Blair Witch, and never came back. THHN Festival of Fun – Fun for Everyone! Live music, licensed bar, food, craft and charity stalls, children’s inflatables, Riviera FM and much much more!  Babbacombe Downs will play host to this fantastic free event, fun for all the family, live music stage with great entertainment from 10am until 4pm.  The Downs will also be the location of the finish line for the THHN City to Sea Marathon and Ultra event on the day.

2019 sees the 50th anniversary of The Who’s most universally-known and much-lauded concept album, Tommy. To mark this anniversary, international 8-piece band, The Goldhawk’s, will be at the venue to perform the original album in full detail and accuracy.

Saturday 14 September – Last Team Standing at Babbacombe Cliff Railway and Oddicombe Beach. 

It’s back.
This event, now in its 4th year, has proved increasingly popular. It was  over-subscribed for teams wanting to enter last year and, as you’ll know if you were there, the build quality was seriously impressive.
To confirm, the drill is as follows:
Teams of up to 8 people (£10 per team to enter). Each given their own square of beach. One hour to build a fortress. Little break. Teams mount the fortresses. Tide comes in. Teams fall off.
Last Team Standing is the winner.
Expect many larks and plenty of laughs.

Afterglow covers the music Genesis played once Phil Collins took on vocal duties. The earlier Gabriel period is well supported by numerous tribute bands but there isn’t much opportunity to hear those later tracks that are equally popular with most Genesis fans. So don’t expect costumes or  Mellotrons catching fire. Do expect to hear the music played with authentic sounds and fastidious detail. Everything from A Trick of the Tail right up to We Can’t Dance… with a few oldies thrown in for good measure!

Enjoy pop classics from Queen, Take That, Little Mix, George Michael, Paloma Faith and John Legend amazing operatic arias interspersed with some of the most favoured and popular songs from movie sound tracks which include, Skyfall, A Star is Born, Mamma Mia and the Greatest Showman and from the musicals, Les Misérables, Billy Elliot and Dear Evan Hanson. Prepare to be starstruck as all these and more will be performed by a cast of ten extremely talented vocalists.

The Elvis Years features the highs and lows of Elvis’s life – including his first legendary Sun session, the ‘Grand Ole Opry’ & ‘Louisiana Hayride’, the death of his beloved mother, his time in the army, the ‘Hollywood’ movie years, the ‘68 Comeback Special, and the incomparable ‘Las Vegas’ concerts.

Friday 17 July – Viva La Coldpay, at Babbacombe Theatre

Viva La Coldplay recreate the complete anthology of Martin, Buckland, Berryman and Champion.  The band perform two hours of career-spanning material from 2000’s ‘Parachutes’ to 2015’s ‘A Head full of Dreams’ taking in key tracks such as Yellow, Clocks, The Scientist, Viva La Vida, Something Just Like This, Paradise and Adventure of a Lifetime to name a few.  This is a show that will delight both fans and novices alike.
